Spring! Sweet, lovely spring! How happy I am each year when you arrive! The spring season is such a great time for rebirth, renewal, everyone getting out of their winter rut and just living life again! It is also a great time for a clean start and by that I mean a spring cleaning in your home! The weather is warmer, you can leave the windows open and just clean all of those winter blues away for awhile! You can go as big or as little as you want with your cleaning process. You can also break it up over time so it isn’t as daunting. Just tackle areas of the home at a time and space them out. We have some spring cleaning tips we try to do each year and ones we wanted to share with you.
Spring cleaning is more about focusing on the areas of your home that don’t get cleaned daily or weekly. If you think of it that way, you will quickly know which areas to focus on. Below are the areas to focus on our spring cleaning tips on how to organize your spring cleaning checklist.
1. Clean from top to bottom
Cleaning from top to bottom literally means that. Start from your ceilings (meaning your curtains) and work your way down to the floor (or baseboards). Generally, your curtains don’t get washed frequently (probably dusted and or vacuumed weekly) so now is the time to take them down, wash them, iron out wrinkles and hang them back up. They will be fresh and free of dust making your house feel so much cleaner.
After tackling the curtains, you will want to clean those windows. That also means cleaning the outsides of them. I have vivid memories when we were younger of my mom yelling she was spring cleaning with every window open in the house and her doing some crazy moves to try and clean the outsides of the windows. It was always a scene, but that is what you need to do. Trust me! Your windows will be so much clearer once both the inside and outside panes are clean.
Now that you have tackled the top, you will need to tackle the bottom. So dusting and washing baseboards, a deep cleaning to your hardwood floors and washing carpets is next on the agenda. Once these areas are clean, you won’t have to think about cleaning them for another few months.
2. Clean Appliances
We use most appliances everyday and most likely clean the surfaces of them, but cleaning the insides of them and their parts is essential to keeping them running properly. So tackle all of the appliances in your kitchen and laundry room. Scrub the insides of them, clean out their filters and any other parts that should be cleaned. This will keep them in tip top shape and hopefully last for you for years to come.
3. Check your alarm, smoke detectors, etc.
This is a super important spring cleaning tip. This is a great time to check all of your alarms, smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. Make sure to change their batteries, check they are working properly and if not replace them accordingly. If you don’t have some of these items in your home, purchase them as soon as possible, as they will save lives in your home. Tech Services of NJ is a great company to assist with fire and safety systems if located in the NJ area. You want a reliable company who is professional and experiences in security integration for your properties and buildings. They also specialize in alarm system repairs in NJ. Once these fire and security systems are in place in your home, you will have peace of mind knowing your family and valuables in your home will be safe at all times.
4. Clean your air
The air your breathe in your home is super important being you spend a lot of time inside your home. Make sure to clean and replace filters in your air conditioner, heat vents, fans in bathrooms, etc. These items can typically be overlooked, but they equally are important to clean and replace to keep them functioning properly. It will also reduce allergens, dust mites, etc. entering your lungs.
5. Clean your cabinets, door knobs, light switches
Aside from the surfaces you clean daily like your kitchen and bathroom counters, spring time is the perfect reminder to clean those other surfaces in the house. I’m talking about the kitchen and bathroom cabinets, door knobs, light switches and even pieces of furniture.
A Clorox wipe will simply do the trick on doorknobs and light switches. For cabinets, a simple solution of water and vinegar cleans them well and is a natural solution. Murphy’s Oil Soap can also be used on your cabinets and on furniture.
Conclusion
In conclusion, by mapping out which rooms you will tackle each day and week will make your spring cleaning job much more manageable. Or select a weekend to tackle all jobs and get to it! That way it is done and you can enjoy the spring season! Once your spring cleaning is all done, your house will feel so fresh and clean and you will have peace of mind knowing you are creating a safe and clean environment for your family. We hope you found our spring cleaning tips to be helpful and use them this season!
